ignatius-m asked: Even when I was a believer, I didn't find the idea of my loved ones being in heaven comforting. It was better than them being in hell, sure, but you never really know that they *are* in heaven.
The worst part was when it was possible they committed suicide (a friend "lost control" of their car on the freeway in the middle of the night with no other cars around) and you have no idea *where* they are.
Even the idea of going to heaven myself was at best a pale comfort and I always found every description of it patently boring and tedious. An unending eternity of heaven could be just as torturous as one in hell.
