clickmamacita asked: It is difficult to look at Karma without a decent concept of Buddhism.

The basic gist for Karma is that there is an intention behind every action and that we should live our lives with good intent towards our actions to create or have "good Karma". (Not all actions are karmic actions though, it is a deep subject). A popular example is that money obtained in ways that are not pure or for reasons that are not pure will never be fully enjoyed. I think that this is something that many can agree with.

Where we begin to fall off is with the idea of Karma as a force continually re-birthing until we balance our good and bad karmas to reach Nirvana. The belief is that every action causes a reaction, but that reaction may not be seen in this life. This is a law of nature and is true on many levels. You start a war in your life, that war is felt for many life times. Actions taken by our forefathers shape our world today.

I am a fan of the idea of karma, not as an "ass biting payback" kind of thing, but as a method of keeping the intentions of my actions in check. I also think that Karma truly puts us in our place in the world. For every action that we take, there is a ripple no matter how small. We as individuals have a huge effect on our world every day, with every action that we take. It is important to step outside of ourselves and see our actions in this context.
I am also a fan o Karma because, unlike many other beliefs, it puts the power in my hands. I shape my world and the world around me. With every decision that I make, I have a chance to make it right and good.
