an-ominous-atheist asked: I don't believe in any "shoulds" except for "you should have safe sex!" Should people be married before doing it? No (okay actually, I do have shoulds, because I think people SHOULD test the product before buying it). Should a person be in a serious relationship? NO. That is MY preference, and I personally would not have casual sex. I personally am slightly more...

Question of the Day?
What are your views on sex and relationships? Should people be married, or at least in a serious relationship, before participating in sexual acts? What rules should apply to sexual relations? Is there such a thing as having too many sexual partners?  Before deciding where you stand please read the commentary here, and if you decide to take the position that there should be restraints to your...

gointothearts asked: The Lion King is one of my favorite childhood movies. I was re-watching the opening sequence ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vX07j9SDFcc ) when I realized... Simba gets baptized in it. I burst into tears. Now there's nothing in my life that religion hasn't permeated. Bastards.

ignatius-m asked: Even when I was a believer, I didn't find the idea of my loved ones being in heaven comforting. It was better than them being in hell, sure, but you never really know that they *are* in heaven.

The worst part was when it was possible they committed suicide (a friend "lost control" of their car on the freeway in the middle of the night with no other cars around) and...

madpage613-deactivated20110609- asked: I would think that comfort came first, before the idea of heavenly peace. Tenderness and empathy are universal qualities and it annoys me that religion and especially Christianity has appropriated these feelings/qualities as their own--as if they could not exist outside of religious experience. Ugh, I wish I was more clear and articulate about this.

adevotedjashinist asked: You are correct that Darwin didnt publish immediatly
He (and his wife) fear persucution from the christians that made up the majority, so he withheld his information for a long time. His original plan was for it to be published following his death, but that was abandoned.

spectral-alphabet asked: I read that Darwin didn't steal the research, but essentially hauled ass on publishing what he had done before a colleague of his finished with similar research. I would write more but I wasn't paying attention in class and only remember this. :P

Anonymous asked: How do you, personally, feel about Darwin stealing his research and Loyola University (and many others) teaching it as such?

They aren't saying evolution isn't real. Just that Darwin took the research from another and published it under his name.

Kalama Sutta
namdiez: The people of Kalama asked the Buddha who to believe out of all the ascetics, sages, venerables, and holy ones who, like himself, passed through their town. They complained that they were confused by the many contradictions they discovered in what they heard. The Kalama Sutta is the Buddha’s reply. Do not believe anything on mere hearsay. Do not believe in traditions merely because...

Cyclone No Time for Atheist PM
A CONTROVERSIAL church group has called on Prime Minister Julia Gillard to fall on her knees in prayer in the midst of the looming cyclone crisis facing Queensland. “It is very sad that this dark chapter in Australia’s history is led by an atheist Prime Minister in Julia Gillard and an openly homosexual Greens leader… both who have no regard for God nor prayer,” Catch the Fire...
